Latin was the universal language.
JSC, this, I think, is only a part of the story. The so-called koine, that is, a greek-based common language, was much more in use than Latin around the beginning of the Christian era. In those days Latin was the language of Italy. In Germany they spoke German, only German, Gauls and Spain still used a Celtic language, and so did the British Iles.

Greek (koine) was in general use everywhere else between non-native people and when they were speaking to the educated natives, and especially in the East, that is, the oriental part of the Roman Empire, and, later, the whole of the Byzantine empire. So koine was, for a time, used not only in Greece, but, for instance, also in Egypt and other East-Mediterranean countries, and in almost all of the eastern countries that Alexander the Great had conquered, to the river Indus and even beyond.

Some learned people think that Jesus and Pilatus probably spoke in koine to each other… Latin became the language of the learned Europe only a few centuries later.

Dear JSC, I should be delighted that you should correct my English.

pourriez-vous me dire si c'est correct? pleaseeeee

I am a pupil (1) in (2) business school and I have to do a training course abroad.
I would have liked doing it in the United States; is it possible?
I was told that you could help us?.

Thks
Salut Englishwoman,

Hi everybody ! This is Lenny 🙂
Well , since this is a topic where we can talk about anything we want … I just wanna let ya'll know how happy I am ! Why ? Because on April , I am going to realize my biggest dream ever ! Yeah people , I am going to NYC
I feel like screaming , jumping and all , but you know , I try not to think too much about it , I mean , I dont want to get unfocused , you know what I mean .
But anyway , I also want to add that I really enjoy this forum , i think it's amazing actually 🙂
LennyBoii, you must be very happy !
I've never been to NYC, but my mother did and she enjoyed herself very much !
How long are you staying there ?
Actually, I went to London two years ago. It was great, and even the weather was quite good (that's to say 20-25 °C 😜 ).

Well, since I do not know what to say : Bye !

Imminielle
Let's be honest ( I speak for myself and few others…) English is by far the best language on earth , it's beautifull, strait to the point and poetic at the same time… I love this language. Latin is the mother of all languages… Arabic too…French is poetic as well. BUT English is a magical language. You say a word in english and it takes you into a hole different level. 😀
You are right, English is obviously a very poetic language. However, to many French teenagers, it is just a way of "being cool". You cannot even imagine how many "put1 ms tu pe pa komprendre, mwa ma life elle é tp duré" I've heard in my life (which is quite short, I reckon)…

Actually, I think French poetry is much better than English poetry… Rimbaud, my heart belongs to you forever !

Have a good night !

Imminielle
Hay !

I have many problems with this langage (how do you say "bien que"?) I love it.
I would like integrate a college, very famous in France, but I think English prevent (?) me access to my dream.

I have a poor English and I would like realise progrets.

Have I any error in this paragraphe?
Could you correct me, please?

Hi,

I think we must resurrect this topic 😀.
Who want to speak ?
i belive that english language is dominant one and the one who masters this language is as the one who has a weapon on his hand , his protected and can undrestand a lot of things in this large world
Bienvenue sur le site.

Je ne suis pas expert en langue anglaise, mais je sais tout de même qu'on écrit "believe" et non "belive", "understand" et non "undrestand".
The English language is fond of simple sentences. It's better to avoid putting 7 verbs in one single sentence.

Nobody knows exactly which countries will dominate the economic world to-morrow. However we can all play a part in keeping various languages alive.
Actualy I think that english is a bit easier than most of the other european languages. Beside of the fact that the dominant players in the international scene in the last centuries were the british and later the american, it could also explain well why english is so widely spoken.
English is an easy language yes, but not for everyone. I know a girl who is really better in speaking german than english. However, german is a difficult language with all this grammar rules. It depends on the person I think.
your topic is not very interessant, speak english is a good idea but speak about what? something of important, of interessant but not about your life " i know agirl who speaks german"
Yes, you're right. So ? We are waiting for you to bring some interesting subject to talk about here.
I think that our world has become a small village and it’s necessary to to have a language that could be spoken by everybody, and I believe that English language is the only one which may reply to this urgent need i wonder why many countries are against the idea of adopting english language as a universal language which will be used evrywhere
I'm sure the English or the Americans would not be opposed to such an idea. However there is no reason why it would please anybody else. Each country has built an identity through centuries and language is part of this identity.

Global English already exists and it is a very basic English just good enough to buy and sell goods . The economic domination of anglo-saxon countries has played a great part in this success. Nothing says that it will be the same to-morrow.

The world is not exactly a village. Even if everybody spoke the same language, they would have different cultures, different habits, different ways of living…
i would like to know the five novels the most read by people
