Bonjour,
Merci d'avance
I will introduce the notion of idea of progress. The word "progress" derives from the Latin "progressus" meaning movement of civilization in general or within one of the areas. For me, this notion is very broad and concerns all things, from society to the new telecommunications, without forgetting the sciences. Progress generally corresponds to an evolution, a change but also a regression, that is, the negative aspect of progress. I would like to talk about a topic, which used to be a sensitive issue and that today corresponds to a struggle. Indeed, in human civilization, women and men, who sometimes are not of the same color, are not on the same pedestal, do not have the same rights. To explain my opinion, I will rely on the opposition of two Anglo-Saxon countries, USA and Great Britain. Are humains rights regressing or progressing?
I- Emeline Pankhusrt : woman fought for the women's vote rights
Considered one of the 100 most important personalities of the 20th century, Emmeline Pankhurst fought for women's rights. In fact, since her youngest age, her parents have introduced her into the women's rights movement. Later, she became involved in the Women's Franchise League, which defends the vote for women. In 1985, she discovered the conditions in which women and girls live, visiting the hospices; Undernourished, poorly dressed and hard working. She is then shocked and then decides to make changes, An experience that will strengthen her feminist commitment and also critics for her militant tactics. Courage, brave determined, she incarnates the figurehead of the movement of the suffragettes. She suffered in prison for her ideals but did not stop fighting for them. During the First World War, Emmeline Pankhurst suspended activism and encouraged women to contribute to the war effort by working in munitions factories. In 1918, Emmeline began to be regarded as an ally of the government and no longer as a leader for her kind. The Representation of the People Act grants voting rights to women aged 30 and over through an alliance with the government and Pankhurst transforms the WSPU machinery into a Women's Party dedicated to promoting women's equality in public life . The way, her rights are recognized by turns and is no longer considered a housewife waiting for the arrival of her husband every night, having the housework and the meal.
II- Civil right act en Alabama
In the DDHC of 1789, article 1 "Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions can only be based on common utility. And yet these values are not always respected. Indeed, the racial segregation of the US advocates a model based on the white race, and which lowers the black race. Discrimination at work, public places and essential services is felt by African Americans. After the refusal to give up a seat to a white man on the bus, in Alabama, things moved. Indeed, the protest gained followers quickly, and led to a city-wide boycott of the bus system until the rules were changed; It was a direct success for the civil rights movement of the time and attracted national attention. Non-violent protests and civil disobedience during this time caused many crisis situations where the government had to act. Its objectives were to abolish racial discrimination in many areas, including public transport, employment, voting and education. These show the inequalities and injustices that have occurred among blacks. Events Were held with sit-ins, marches and boycotts. It was then the creation of a law, such as the one on civil rights in 1964, prohibited discrimination in employment and public housing based on "race, color, religion or national origin" and That of 1965 restoring the right to vote for all. There is also that of 1965 and 1968. The civil rights movement concerned the foundations of dignity, respect, freedom and equality
Conclusion :
The 20th century has been affected by numerous developments in various countries. Between Europe and North America, men and women have fought to create the world we know today. They are part of the story, and will continue over time. Our world is constantly changing, as I speak to you, many people were fighting for other reasons. A battle that has ended today is another one that commences tomorrow. If we recall names, or places, there are dates to remind us of events, such as the woman's day on March 8 of each year. We will celebrate again and again until equality between men and women is achieved. However, human rights have not always been progressing equally around the world. We can see for example in places like Saudi Arabia, women can't have a driving license. And there is also gendercide in India were baby boys are privileged. We can use these documents in the notion Places and Forms of power for example because here we see the supremacy of a portion of the population over the others. Men over women and whites over blacks.
bonjour
Donc
The word "Progress" derives from the Latin word "Progressus". In the frame of a society, Progess is often seen as a way to reach an advanced stage of social development and organization. For me, this very notion covers a wide range of different topics such as Information and Technology, science and culture. Usually, "Progress" can be defined both as a stage of evolution as well as a regression. Over the last centuries, men and women from different backgrounds or with different skin colors, have always received unequal treatments. To understand this important issue, I will base my argumentation on the opposition of two main nations, USA and Great Britain. We may ask ourselves if human rights are regressing or progressing?
I- Emeline Pankhusrt : woman fought for the women's vote rights
Emeline Pankhurst, who used to fight in favor of women’s rights, is now considered as one of the 100 most important figures of the 20th century. Actually, it all began when her parents had introduced her to the women's rights movement. Later on, she became involved in the Women's Franchise League, an organization dedicated to give women the right to vote. In 1985, she visited hospice facilities and was stunned after witnessing the terrible conditions in which women and little girls were treated. Most were undernourished, poorly dressed and exhausted from hard working conditions. Then she decided to make a real change. Her experience will later strengthen her feminist commitment and her will to make militant tactics more efficient. As a courageous and self-determined woman, she would eventually become the spearehead of the Suffragettes movement. Despite spending some time in prison due to her ideals, she never stopped fighting for them. During the First World War, Emmeline Pankhurst suspended activism and encouraged women to contribute to the war effort by working in ammunition factories. In 1918, Emmeline was even more seen as an ally of the then government and no longer as a threat. The Representation of the People Act grants voting rights to women aged 30 and over through an alliance with the British government. Pankhurst transformed the WSPU (définir ce que c'est) machinery into a Women's Party dedicated to promoting women's equality in public life . Nowadays, Women are no longer considered as merely housewives waiting for their husbands to come home and much more as equal partners under the law.
A bientôt.
Tu me dit que tu parles de Civil Rights en Alabama😀'accord mais il faut donner les grandes lignes et citer les personnes au cœur de ce qui s'est passé dans cet état mais qui , j'insiste bien , concerne tous les Etats;
The Notion of Progress : the struggle for human rights.
I will FIRST OF ALL introduce the notion of progress. The word "progress" derives from the Latin "progressus" and suggests an improvement: in sciences, in society on a given topic .I think that this notion is very broad and CAN concern MANY TOPICS,; Progress generally corresponds to an evolution OF KNOWLEDGE BUT ALSO IN THE WAY WE INTERACT;(je n'ai pas mis que le progrès c'était aussi "une régression car là il faudrait développer et ce que tu présentes sont bien des PROGRES .De plus quand les femmes obtiennent le droit de vote: c'est bien un progrès , et si on leur retire c'est une régression . Progresser est le contraire de Regresser ce n'est pas l'aspect negatif du progrès) I WOULD LIKE TO FOCUS ON THE TOPIC OF HUMAN RIGHTS WHICH WERE GAINED THROUGH STRUGGLES AND ARE STILL A SENSITIVE ISSUE;
I WILL DIVIDE THIS TOPIC IN TWO PARTS: THE RIGHT TO VOTE FOR WOMEN IN ENGLAND AND THE THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENTS IN THE UNITED STATES .I WILL THEN PONDER:. Are the human rights really progressing?
1 THE WOMAN WHO LED THE BATTLE FOR ENGLISH WOMEN TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE : Emeline Pankhrust
Considered AS one of the 100 most important personalities of the 20th century, Emmeline Pankhurst fought for women's rights. In fact, since her youngest age, her parents haD introduced her her into the women's rights movement(j'avoue que cela me laisse pensive que l'on laisse une petite fille se mêler du mouvement féministe qui était très décrié à l'époque et réservée à des adultes très convaincues). Later, she became involved in the Women's Franchise League, which defendED the vote for women. In 1985 (!! OUPSIES LA DATE N'EST PAS CORRECTE !!) she WAS SHOCKED TO SEE the conditions in which women and girls liveD as she visitED hospices;tHEY WERE undernourished, poorly dressed and hard working (ATTENTION HARD WORKING SIGNIFIE / TRAVAILLEUR ET C EST UN COMPLIMENT) donc : they worked very hard. THIS experience strengthenED her feminist commitment .ALTHOUGH SHE WAS HIGHLY CRITIZED SHE WAS brave AND determined AND SHE BECAME THE LEADER OF THE SUFFRAGETTES' movement . She suffered in prison for her ideals but did not stop fighting for them. During the First World War, Emmeline Pankhurst suspended activism and encouraged women to contribute to the war effort (j'enlève des choses car il faut faire "punchy" et les femmes qui ont contribué à l'effort de guerre l'ont fait en travaillant dans les usines,en s'engageant..). In 1918, Emmeline began to be regarded as an ally TO the government and no longer as an ENEMY. The Representation of the People Act grantED (attention aux temps) voting rights to women aged 30 and over. Through an alliance with the government , Pankhurst transformED the WSPU into a Women's Party dedicated to promoting women's equality in public life .(( The way, her rights are recognized by turns and is no longer considered a housewife waiting for the arrival of her husband every night, having the housework and the meal.
IF EMELINE PANKHURST SHOWED THE WAY FOR WOMEN TOWARDS MORE EQUALITY , WE CAN ONLY BUT SEE THAT MENTALITIES ARE SLOW TO CHANGE AND THAT EVEN WHEN WOMEN HAVE A JOB , THEY ARE STILL THE ONES THAT DO THE MOST HOMEWORK .AND EQUAL DIPLOMAS DO NOT MEAN EQUAL PAY…..
2.ALABAMA FIRES THE ISSUE TO END SEGREGATION IN THE UNITED STATES.
A CENTURY AFTER BEING FREED FROM SLAVERY, AFRICAN AMERICANS WERE STILL LOOKED DOWN UPON BY WHITE PEOPLE: SEGREGATION WAS EVERYWHERE ;WHITE PEOPLE AND BLACK PEOPLE DID NOT MINGLE. THERE WAS discrimination at work,IN public places in transports; ON… (mettre la date) Rosa Parks , a black woman refused to give HER seat UP to a white man on the bus, in MONTGOMERY, Alabama, ; SHE WAS ARRESTED AND TAKEN TO JAIL. This event triggered the civil rights movement. Protest gained followers quickly, and led to a city-wide boycott of the bus system until the rules were changed; Non-violent protests led by MARTIN LUTHER KING and civil disobedience caused many crisis situations where the government had to act. (pour dire objectif ; aim, goal).THE STRUGGLE FOR EQUAL RIGHTS THAT STARTED IN THE SOUTHERN STATES WAS FOLLOWED BY THE WHOLE COUNTRY ; NUMEROUS events were held with sit-ins, marches and boycotts.BOTH BLACK AND WHITE PEOPLE FELT CONCERNED. In 1965 (je crois),PRESIDENT JOHNSON SIGNED THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT WHICH WAS TO BE APPLIED IN ALL THE STATES ANS WHICH, prohibited discrimination in employment and public housing based on "race, color, religion or national origin"; it gave the right to vote for all. The civil rights movement LAID the foundations of dignity, respect, freedom and equality
QUOTAS WERE APPLIED IN SCHOOLS SO THAT HARD WORKING STUDENTS COULD HAVE ACCESS TO BETTER SCOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES.ALAS ,AS THESE QUOTAS WERE NOT WRITTEN DOWN IN THE CONSTITUTION , KIDS NOWADAYS ARE AGAN SEPARATED (ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTH) AND ATTEND ALL -BLACK SCHOOLS AND ARE OFFERED LESS PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSTIES.
AS A CONCLUSION WE HAVE SEEN THAT The 20th century has been affected by progress . IN ENGLAND and North America, men and women have fought to create A BETTER PLACE , WITH MORE EQUALITY .WE MUST NEVER STOP FIGHTING AND THINK THAT THESE RIGHTS ARE THERE FO GOOD. Our world is constantly changing AND THE RIGHTS OBTAINED ARE ALWAYS PUT INTO QUESTION.
I HAVE FOCUSED ON TWO IMPRESSIVE EXAMPLES BUT WE MUST NOT FORGET THAT IN MANY PARTS OF THE GLOBE, THERE IS STILL MUCH TO BE ACHIEVED; THERE WILL ALWAYS BE PEOPLE WHO WILL ENJOY HAVING A FORM OF SUPREMACY OVER OTHERS: IN SAUDI ARABIA WOMEN DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DRIVE A CAR OR EVEN LEAVE THE COUNTRY FREELY ; WHAT A (BAD) SURPRISE WE HAVE JUST LEARNED ON THE 24 TH OF JULY (cela s'écrit autrement, je te mets la façon dont cela doit être prononcé ) THAT THE UNITED NATIONS HAVE EMPOWERED SAUDI ARABIA TO DEFEND THE CAUSE OF WOMEN !!
Good luck on your exam!! 😉
I'm going to talk about the notion spaces and exchanges.
Spaces that are defined by physical or virtual limits and by the activities that we find in those spaces that we call exchanges. Exchanging is an action that is defined as giving and receiving something in return .
The concept «Spaces and Exchanges» illustrates the theme of the discovery of new spaces and territories, the major waves of immigration, the fact of transgressing the frontier and finally the travel. However, I decided to focus my work on the United States. What's attracting immigrants to live in the USA?
I- Immigration at Ellis Island : a new territory
Immigration is the movement of non-native people into a country With movements of people, we can alos talk about movements of culture, people bring their habits, their way of communicate and it create exchanges. The USA is a nation of immigrants and is now known as a melting pot A melting pot is a place where different styles, or way of life, are mixed together. . Every person in America is an immigrant or the descendant of an immigrant. The quota Act established quotas of immigrants per country in order to maintain the unity of the U.S.Therefore the immigrants were examined, checked before they can enter the territory. Ellis Island was the gateway for millions of immigrants. In the video “Obama sweeping reform immigrations”, Obama explains the comprehensive reform bill he had worked on which was blocked by the Congress. The bill aimed to improve the economy of the population which would have benefited from the dynamism of young immigrants. The country would have benefit from the diversication of culture. Obama declared he had decided to do what was in his power to keep and attract high skilled immigrants.
II- American dream for a new inhabitants
The American Dream is still relevant. So every citizen of the United States of America has the opportunity to achieve their dream no matter what prejudices they may face, depending on their perseverance and luck. People in the United States of America still remain optimistic and hopeful and recognize achieving the American Dream is up to them and not dependent on someone else. Millions of people in developing courntries still want to come to realize the American Dream it has became the aspiration dream of millions throughout the world because success is what the American Dream is all about. All the immigrants will to love this life and adopt the “americain way of life” because USA is a country who attract people of many horizons.
The different spaces of the world are nowadays more and more connected to each other. Indeed the globalization connected the areas at different scales. This globalization is characterized by the multiplication of actors and the explosion of the flux. Consequently, the exchanges raised in the past century. These exchanges have been helped by the progress of transport. The exchanges can appear on many forms: capitals, people, goods, and data. One particular exchange is very interesting because it involves both notions: spaces and exchanges, and it is immigration step by step, with the globalization, we can see borders disappear. Spaces become one world because all spaces need to others countries for live
