Oral de littérature anglaise - The definition of friendship

Bonjour, alors voilà, je suis en TL et je prépare donc mon oral de littérature anglaise, problème, j'ai déjà réécrit trois fois mes deux notions parce que ma prof n'était jamais contente, j'aimerais un avis et savoir si possible comment vous avez fait votre dossier, voilà voila !
Ma première notion :

The definition of friendship is when two personns who have the same interest meet and become closer. At the difference, love is when you want to be one with someone but not possesses her constently.
How the authors described and show the relation between their characters ?
Here, I have three texts which was about different kind of friendship or love ; The heart is a lonely hunter by McCullers, Pride and prejudice by Austen and The story of an hour by Chopin.



I. The heart is a lonely hunter


Firstly, this novel wrote by McCullers enter in the ghotick genre, now it deals more with a psychological aspect that an horror aspect like before. So this story present misfits people who can't find a place in the society the extract that we have studied is the incipit of the story. We can also say that this story had a lot of succes when it was release. We follow two mutes, Antanapoulos and Singer during their day and observe their relationship which is weird because they are different in their style and way of be. Singer is more talkative than Antanapoulos. Their relationship is a one-sided friendship, because Singer looks more interested in Antanapolus. It's always him who's speaking while Antanapoulos prefers drinking, eating, and sleeping. The story was written in a kind of daily life with chronological events. We also have a lot of description, about the characters, what they are doing and where they are going.. So McCullers described their friendship as an unrequited friendship and show this thanks to the uninterest that Antanapoulos have for Singer.




II. Pride and Prejudice



The second story is called Pride and prejudice. Here the scene takes place in the living room of the Bennet. The mother and the father are the only characters present. Ms Bennet is really talkative while Mr Bennet only speaks for answer to his wife. Their relationship looks really conflicting because Mr Bennet use the irony for answer to his wife and he seems to be bored by her. Ms Bennet seems to be a little stupid because she doesn't understand the irony behind the words of his husband. I think that their relationship is based on money, because in this century, the wedding was only made because of money. The littery movement of the novel is the femini voices. The author used a sustained langage, which is normal because it was how people were speaking in this century. This story wasn't really know in the century because of the war.
So Austen described the relation between the parents as a superficial relation, without love, and only here because of a mariage for advantages.



III. The story of an hour



The story of an hour is a really short story about a women who died because of joy. We have the main characters Mrs Mallard, who is afflicted with a heart disease. Her husband is declared dead further to a train crash. At the beginning we though that she died because she was happy that her husband disapeard. But no, she died because she fell free. Her wedding wasn't really happy. When she was young, she was strong and intelligent but after the marriage she became subdued.This wedding were like a jail for her, and the fact that finally the reason of her misery died made her understand that she was free, she could live the life that she always wanted. The narrator is omniscient because we can read her thought. The vocabulary she used is sustained and with some metaphore This novel was really appreciate by the public and well welcomed.
So, Chopin show this relationship as an harmful relation which took the freedom of the wife and let her miserable.


In conclusion, we can say that the author always show the relation between their characters as a harmful relation, or a relation base on interest like money and sometime base on an onesided relation.

I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE A definition of friendship:IT is when two PEOPLE (on dit one person mais two people) who have the same CENTERS OF INTERESTS IN LIFE, THE SAME TASTES meet and become closer.THEREFORE IT IS DIFFERENT FROM love WHEN TWO PEOPLE ARE ATTRACTED TO ONEANOTHER AND WANT TO LIVE TOGETHER AND MAYBE HAVE CHILDREN TOGETHER .
FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE HAVE VARIOUS WAYS OF EXPRESSION : FRIENDSHIP LIKE LOVE CAN BE VERY POSSESIVE BUT SOME PEOPLE CAN LIVE THINGS MORE FREELY.
How HAVE the authors CHOSEN ( CARSON MC CULLERS , JANE AUSTEN AND CHOPIN )TO HANDLE THESE NOTIONS?
Here, WE have three texts which ARE about different kind of friendship or love ; The heart is a lonely hunter by McCullers, Pride and prejudice by JANE Austen and The story of an hour by Chopin.



I. The heart is a lonely hunter BY CARSON MC CULLERS

This novel wrITTEN by McCullers deals with a psychological aspect OF FRIENDSHIP .(je ne comprends pas pourquoi tu parles du style gothique car ce roman est son premier,elle n'a pas aboder d'autre style) So this story present US WITH misfits who can't find a place in society. The extract that we have studied is the incipit of the story.This story had a lot of succes when it was releaseD MAYBE BECAUSE WE ARE ALL "MISFITS" SOMETIMES AND WE LIKE TO HAVE A COMMUNITY TO RELATE TO. We follow two mutes, Antanapoulos and Singer(WHO IS THE CHARACTER THAT IS AT THE CENTER OF THE BOOK BECAUSE HE LISTENS TO OTHERS AND CARES DEEPLY FOR THEM)WE ARE FOLLOW THE EVOLUTION OF THE TWO MUTES' relationship .WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE RELATIONSHIP IS NOT EQUAL ONE BECAUSE THE GREEK PERSON IS A BIT INSANE AND IS NOT AS MUH INVOLVED IN THE FRIENDSHIP AS SINGER. Singer is more talkative(ATTENTION CELA VEUT DIRE BAVARD ET NON UN MUET N EST PAS BAVARD!)is MORE EXPRESSIVE than Antanapoulos. Their relationship is a one-sided friendship, because Singer LOOKS AFTER AntanapoUlOs. It's always him who KEEPS THE RELATIONSHIP ALIVE while Antanapoulos prefers drinking, eating, and sleeping. The story was written AS daily life ROUTINE with chronological events. We also have a lot of descriptionS, AND WE SEE THAT ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE "LONELY"BUT TRY TO BE FRIENDS TO EACH OTHER;
THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO MUTES IS AT THE CORE OF THE NOVEL AND THERE ARE OTHER FRIENDSHIPS THAT UNRAVEL IN THE NOVEL.




II. Pride and Prejudice BY JANE AUSTEN



The second NOVEL I HAVE CHOSEN IS Pride and prejudice. Here the scene takes place in the living room AT the Bennets'. The mother and the father are the only characters present. MRs Bennet is really talkative while Mr Bennet only speaks TO answer HIS wife. Their relationship looks really conflicting because Mr Bennet useS irony TO SPEAK TO his wife and he seems to be bored by her. MRs Bennet seems to be a little stupid because she doesn't understand the irony behind the words of hER husband. I think that their relationship is based on money,OR AT LEAST ON SOCIAL BOUNDS because in this century, the weddingS WERE BASED BOTH AND MONEY AND ON THE FACT OF BELONGING TO THE SAME SOCIAL CLASS. ThE NOVEL IS TOLD THROUGH FEMALE VOICES OF THE HEROINS. The author useS a sustained langUage, which is OF NO SURPRISE because it was how people SPOKE in THE 19 TH century. (j'enlève ce qui n'apporte rien à ton sujet :il faut aussi mettre des choses positives ,par exemple ici dire que le roman n'a pas eu un succes immediat ne nourrit pas ton theme)
So JANE Austen described the "love" between the parents as a superficial relation,and the theme of love is MORE DEVELOPPED THANKS TO THE DAUGHTERS OF THE COUPLE WHO WANT TO FIND LOVE IN THEIR MARRIAGES AND NOT BE LIKE THEIR PARENTS.
On dit a marriage pour un mariage "wedding" est réservé au jour du mariage



III. The story of an hour by….

je suis un peu plus ennuyée pour corriger cette partie ,je ne connais pas cette œuvre.



The story of an hour is a really short story(attention "a short story" cela veut dire une nouvelle,donc c'est un genre litteraire) about a womAn who died because of joy. We have the main characters Mrs Mallard, who is afflicted with a heart disease. Her husband is declared dead a train crash.AND THE HEROIN IS VERY HAPPY INDEED TO LEARN THAT TRAGIC DEATH. At the beginning we tHINK that mRS MALLARD died ONLY BECAUSE she was happy BECAUSE her husband disapearREd. But IN FACT, she died because she fEELS free. Her wedding wasn't really happy. When she was young, she was strong and intelligent but after the marriage she became subdued.This wedding wAS like a jail for her. SO the fact that finally the CAUSE OF HER MISERY , HER HUSBAND, dies made her understand that she IS free; SHe CAN NOW live the life that she always wanted. The narrator is omniscient because we can read THE CHARACTERS thoughtS AND EVERYTHING THAT IS GOING ON. The vocabulary used is sustained and THERE ARE SOME metaphoreS This novel was really appreciateD by the public AT LARGE
So, Chopin show ThAT A RELATIONSHIP IN A MARRIAGE CAN BE SOMETIMES BE HARMFUL :
j'ai enlevé la fin car il y avait des répétitions.


AS A conclusion, we can say that WE HAVE SEEN THREE DIFFERENT SIUATIONS AND THREE DIFFERENT RELATIONSHIPS THE THREE AUTHORS SHOW US A FRIENSHIP THAT IS ONE -SIDED (IN THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER) THEN A MARRIAGE IN PRIDE AND PREJUDICE THAT WAS MAYBE FORMERLY BASED ON LOVE (AS WELL AS SOCIAL CODES)BUT HAS BECOME BORING AND A MORE TRAGIC FORM OF "LOVE" in THE STORY OF AN HOUR WHERE THE WIFE IS ENTRAPPED AND HAS NO TIME TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER NEW FREEDOM .

Oui, j'aurais une question sur le contenue de mon dossier, en fait ma prof me reproche de ne pas mettre grand chose de son cours, le problème, c'est que son cours n'est pas compatible avec ma problématique et pourtant elle s’évertue à me faire cette reproche, donc je ne sais pas si j'ai mal compris le contenue du dossier, mais le but est de répondre à une problématique en s'appuyant sur les textes étudiés, et non pas de faire une analyse style commentaire littéraire où on n'analyse que le mouvement et la façon d'écrire de l'auteur non ? Je veux dire, le but est bien de répondre à notre problématique en analysant ce que le texte nous offre comment éléments de réponse ?

Alors pas de panique: cette épreuve a un coef…..1

Il s'agit en fait d'intéresser tout au long de l'année les élèves à des lectures de tous genres .

Donc pour l'oral il faut effectivement avoir une "problématique " (qui est un bien grand mot car une vraie "problématique " s'articule de façon plus complexe ;mais bon c'est le mot à la mode)

Tu étudies le thème de l'amitié sous plusieurs angles: l'amitié de cœurs solitaires, de vieux époux qui ont fait un mariage de raison …..
Dans ce que j'ai fait , retrouve-tu les idées de ta prof? Si oui, ne te fais pas de souci . Je pense que le "hic" était que l'expression était bancale et les idées mal enchaînées, c'est tout!!
