Bonjour,

Mom died today. Or maybe yesterday, I don't know. I received a telegram from the home: "Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Yours faithfully". That doesn't mean anything. It may have been yesterday.
Old people's home is situated at Marengo, at eighty kilometers from Alger. I'll take the bus at two o'clock and I'll arrive in the afternoon. Thus, I'll be able to keep vigil over mom and I'll come back home tomorrow night. I asked for two days off to my chairman and he couldn't deny me it with an excuse like that. But he didn't seem to be happy. I even said to him: "It's not my fault." He didn't answer me. Then, I thought that I ?. In shot, I hadn't to apologize. ? oferme me his condolences. But he'll probably do it the day after tomorrow, when he'll see me in mourning. At present, it's almost as if mom wasn't dead / didn't die. After the funeral, on the contrary, it will be over and everything will invest a more official aspect.
I took the bus at two o'clock. That was hot. I ate out, at Celeste's restaurant, as usual. They all were very sade for me and Celeste said to me: "We only have one mother." When I left, they saw me to the door. I was a little careless because I had to go to mmanuel's home in order to borrow him a black tie and a black armband. He lost his uncle, a few months ago.
I ran in order to not miss the departure. This hurry, this running, it's because of all of that probably, added to the jolts, the smelling of gas, the reflection of the road and the sun, that I dozed off. I sleeped nearly throughout the journey.

Mom died today. Or maybe yesterday, I don't know. I received a telegram from the home: "Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow. Yours faithfully". That doesn't mean anything. It may have been yesterday.
The old people's home is situated at Marengo, (at) eighty kilometers from Alger. I'll take the bus at two o'clock and (I'll) arrive in the afternoon. Thus, I'll be able to keep watch over mom and I'll come back home tomorrow night. I asked for two days off to my chairman and he couldn't deny me it/refuse it to me, with such an excuse. But he didn't seem to be happy. I even told him: "It's not my fault." He didn't answer me. I then thought I shouldn't have said this to him. In shot, I didn't have to apologize. It was his to offer his condolences to me. But he would probably do it the day after tomorrow, when he'd see me in mourning. At present/ For the time being, it's almost as if mom wasn't dead. After the funeral, on the contrary, it will be over and everything will have assumed a more official aspect.
I took the bus at two o'clock. It was hot. I ate out, at Celeste's (restaurant), as usual. Theywere all very sad for me and Celeste said to me: "We only have one mother." When I left, they accompanied me to the door. I was a little careless because I had to go to Emmanuel's home in order to borrow him a black tie and an armband. He lost his uncle, a few months ago.

Explications :
- To deny somebody something = to refuse something to somebody (enfin je crois !) Mais deny est très bien !
- Grâce au site Wordreference, je dirais to "keep watch over" pour une personne morte.
- "such an excuse" = une telle excuse
- pour varier de "to say', on peut mettre "to tell somebody something/to tell something to somebody"
- Pour la non-obligation (ça se dit ça ? ), on met "didn't have to" et non "hadn't to".
- C'était à lui de faire ça = It was his to do that
~> C'est à moi de le faire = it is mine to do it etc…
- to offer condolences to someone
- At present = for the time being = pour le moment
Pour t'en souvenir, retiens "To be or not to be, that is the question"
