Bonjour, j'ai un devoir à rendre lundi, et je voudrais savoir s'il par hasard il y aurait des erreurs… Je souligne les choses dont je ne suis pas sûre. Si vous pouviez me dire où sont les erreurs probables, les tournures de phrases qui ne sont pas bonnes, les passages un peu lourds, etc, vous me seriez d'une très grande aide =)
Voici mon texte.
Bonne journée !
When I try to remember what was it like to learn and hear English for the first time, I must admit that everything is very wooly. However, I can remember certain things.
When I first began to learn English, I was in my last primary school year. I remember the very first time I saw my teacher's young beautiful English assistant : I literally fell in love with him. He was young, yet he was much more older than I, and I had never seen such a handome and good-looking man in my short life. He had brown hair, and wonderful clear green eyes with a magnificent piercing look. By the way, I am wondering whether it is not because – or thanks – to this man that I love brown-haired and green-eyed men, nowadays… ? I think it is. As I said, I literally fell in love with him, which was completely stupid, because I am sure that he did not even know my name. But I have a good reason of falling in love with him : I was very young, and he was kind of my first love.
And then, this fantastic man began to speak his language. I was a little bit familiar with English, thanks to the songs I listened to. But when I was listening to theses songs, I did not understand a single word of what was being said. And unfortunately, it was absolutely the same with my teacher's assistant, whom I do not even remember the name. At that time, when he was speaking English, it was as if I was listening to someone speaking Chinese or Russian nowadays. I know it was normal not to understand him, and I also know that it was the same for each of my classmates. But I remember that I was very frustrated because I wanted to be the best in what I was undertaking. Being a debutant for me was something I could not accept. I wanted to learn everything of the English language immediately and I wanted to know how to speak English as quickly as possible. Obviously, it was completely impossible, no one is able to do so.
At the end of this year, I had already learned many words and English expressions, yet I still did not know how to hold a correct conversation. But I recall that at the very last lesson, my teacher's assistant asked us to tell him the translation in French of the English words he was about to say. According to him, we had written all the words he was going to ask in our copybooks. And that is how I realized that, obviously, I had written the words in question, just like my classmates, but that I had forgotten to write their translation ! I had a copybook full of English words, but without their translation. To make it short : it had absolutely no use. And of course, when he started to say English words, I did not understand a single word and I did not manage to translate a single word as well, except the most simple ones. Once again, I was very frustrated, because one of my classmate had thought about writing the translations in his notebook. And he was the only one !
Finally, I was able to understand and communicate with very simple words the next year, during my first secondary school year. My teacher was very nice, and she was a very good teacher as well. I remember that, in order for us to become more familiar with English, we had to learn poems and to recite them in front of all the class. One of these poems was about a house, in which there is a room where there is cupboard in which there is a little box, and in this little box, THERE IS A GHOST ! I remember it because I had the best mark ever of all the class, and because I loved that poem so much. And I also remember that she wanted us to shout while saying the last sentence. It was wonderful.
And now, I am here, studying English at University. Who could have belived that ? Not me. I think that it is because I had very good English teachers that I am now able to talk English quite fluently. Both of the teachers I talked about previously managed to make me love English, and another of my teachers, when I was in my very last secondary school year, gave me the urge to become an English teacher. And I thank all of them for that. I think that, when you love languages in general, there is no purer joy of being able to communicate with other people of different culture and nationality. Personnally, I speak English, and a little bit Italian, and I must admit that now, I would love to learn another new language, such as German or Spanish ! Learning a language is like having a tatoo. When you have one tatoo, you want to have another one. And when you start to speak one foreign language, you want to learn more than one. That is the case for me.
