Robert Lewis Stevenson was born the 13 november in 1850 and he died the 3 December in 1894 in Samoa .
He was a Scottish writer and a big traveler married with Fanny Osbourne an american artist .
He was born in a famous family because his parents and grandparents were engineers builders lighthouses.
As his mother he was born with a fragile health , he suffered from chest and the Scottish climate was not an advantage .
He's entrusted to the care of a nursemaid who was a real treasure of tales and poems.
He has give up his studies of engineers then of lawyer to dedicate itself to the writing.
Already at the age of 13 , he dreamed of being a writer and at 16 years , he published at the expense of his father a first novel by 22 pages.
He was very attracted by the French culture and he leaves living there 5 years in 1874 . He changes even his name Lewis in Louis.
He also travelled in England, in Switzerland , in Australia , because he doesn't still manage to find a climate adapted to his health .
In 1978, he decides to buy a donkey and to leave the village of Monsatier to join Saint-Jean-du-gard after 12 days and 220 km of walking.
From there , will be born the idea of the book "Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes".
His first big success is "Treasure Island " published in 1883. In 1885 he published "A Child's Garden of Verses" a collection of poetry.
In 1887 he is welcomed by the New York press as a star, further to the success of "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde".
3 years later he publishes "The Master of Ballantrae" , an adventure novel which will also be adapted to the cinema.
He was enthusiastically greeted by the biggest of his contemporaries and his successors .
The peoples of the Pacific had a high respect for him as he defended the cause of the separatists against the colonial powers.
